Understanding SIL

SIL is the support — not the house.

NDIS funding helps pay for support workers who assist or supervise daily tasks in your home.

Supported Independent Living is an NDIS home and living support for people with higher support needs. Depending on your approved plan, support may be shared with housemates or delivered individually.

SIL is designed to help you complete everyday activities, develop skills and live as independently as possible — in a home that feels like yours, with a team that genuinely cares.

What SIL can support

Everyday support, greater independence.

The exact supports depend on the participant's approved plan, assessed needs, routines and personal goals.

Personal care

Assistance with showering, dressing, grooming, continence, mobility and other personal routines.

Meals and household routines

Support with cooking, cleaning, laundry and developing safe, manageable household routines.

Overnight support

Overnight assistance or supervision for participants whose approved support arrangements include it.

Skill development

Working toward independence with cooking, budgeting, routines, decision-making and other daily living skills.

Social and community routines

Support to plan activities, prepare for appointments and maintain relationships and community connections.

Safety and wellbeing

Assistance and supervision to help manage risks, follow agreed plans and maintain safety and wellbeing at home.

Our process

A thoughtful move, not a rushed decision.

We take time to understand support needs, routines, risks, preferences and compatibility before planning a transition.

01

Share your goals, current situation, preferred location and the type of support being considered.

02

Understand support needs

We review relevant plans, assessments and information with the participant and their chosen support network.

03

Explore compatibility

We consider location, accessibility, routines, household compatibility and support requirements carefully.

04

Plan the transition

We plan the move carefully, prepare the support team and review how the transition is progressing.
